Despite the small drop of 0.7% in the volume shipped in September and the 13.3% drop in revenue compared to 2022, the president of the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA), Ricardo Santin, remains optimistic. “Maintaining current levels, driven by sales to various destinations, we expect exports in 2023 to exceed the 5 million ton mark”, expressed Santin.

Among the main destinations for chicken meat exports from Brazil in 2023, the highlights were sales to China, with 592.6 thousand tons (+31% compared to the same period of the previous year), Saudi Arabia, with 305 thousand tons (+5%), South Africa, with 286 thousand tons (+25%), South Korea, with 166.5 thousand tons (+9%) and Mexico, with 155.6 thousand tons (+22%).
China continues to lead, standing out as the main destination for Brazilian chicken meat exports in September, importing 57.1 thousand tons, a notable increase of 41.6% compared to the same period in 2024. Notable increases were also observed in sales to the United Arab Emirates. , South Africa, South Korea and Mexico.
Brazil: the world's largest exporter of chicken meat
Brazil secures its position as the second largest chicken producer in the world and the main exporter. Companies like Pluma Agroavícola contribute significantly to this production, operating in eight Brazilian states and the Federal District.

Luis Rua, markets director at ABPA, attributes the growth in exports to several factors, including increased demand from China, market expansion and the authorization of new establishments to export to specific countries. “In addition to the increase in demand from China and other markets for Brazilian chicken products, this year we saw the opening of four new markets and the increase in establishments authorized to export poultry to selected countries. Recent listings for the United Kingdom, Chile and Cuba should reflect on future shipments", emphasized Rua.
